ARAZZERIA SCASSA - THE ART OF TAPESTRY

01/01/2024 - 31/12/2024
Via DELL'ARAZZERIA 60, Asti 14100
Via(E)

The tapestry atelier was founded in 1957 by Ugo Scassa, one of the best master weavers in the world. The atelier still realises contemporary works of art thanks to the meeting of modern sensitivity and a technique which has remained unchanged through the centuries. The works are hand-made thanks to the skilled work of the master weavers. Here, the ancient art of the high-heddle technique and the use of highest quality wool allow the master weavers to realise special shadings and incredible details. The atelier works with museums all over the world and the weavers have made tapestry works of paintings by Corrado Cagli, Renato Guttuso, Giorgio de Chirico, Felice Casorati as well as works by Mirò, Botero and Paul Klee. Next to the atelier there is an area dedicated to a museum. During the visit, visitors will see the ancient looms in operation and the tapestries in production. The visit to the atelier allows to understand the history of the tapestry, the value of the art of weaving and the original expressiveness and aesthetics of an artefact which, inspired by an existing work of art, is always a creative re-elaboration.
