CANELLI AND THE UNDERGROUND CATHEDRALS

The city of Canelli is famous worldwide for spumante, produced for the first time in Cantine Gancia in 1865.
Long underground cellars have been built in the entire hill dominated by the homonymous castle. These cellars, called “Cathedrals” for their magnificence, descend to a depth of 32 metres and cross the entire city
for more than 20 km.
These spaces, protected by a thousand-year-old land, where silence recalls the atmosphere which can be found in ancient cathedrals, have the right temperature and constant humidity which are ideal for refining fine wines and spumante which still age here today awaiting to conquer the tables all over the world.
Together with the infernots, they are listed as UNESCO heritage sites.
Our tour allows us to visit 2 of the historic wineries of Canelli and appreciate these incredible works of engineering and taste some of the wines
produced here.
