ARCHAEOLOGY AND OENOLOGY: ACQUI TERME BETWEEN PAST AND PRESENT

Day 1

Arrive at a well-known winery in Strevi. Visit and wine tasting to discover the iconic wines, including Brachetto d'Acqui DOCG. Followed by gourmet picnic among the vineyards and walk among the hills as far as the yellow Big Bench Moscato dell'Amicizia to take spectacular souvenir photos.
Arrive to Acqui Terme in the late afternoon.
Dinner in osteria of the historic centre with local tasting menu.
Overnight stay in 3* hotel close to the centre.

Day 2

After breakfast meet the guide and start the visit of Acqui Terme.
The town centre is home to the octagonal edicule of La Bollente, which spurts out thermal and healing water at a temperature of 75°C.
Local legend has it that the residents of Acqui immersed their newborns in the spring of the Bollente, and anyone who survived became a "sgaiento", meaning scalded. This is the name given to the residents and to an important autumn fair.

The visit includes the historic centre of Acqui Terme, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta which is home to the Triptych of Our Lady of Montserrat by the painter Bartolomeo Bermejo, the streets and squares full of civil and religious monuments of the medieval and Roman period.
The Archaeological sites of Acqui Terme are the highest and clearest sign of the town’s history. The testimonies of the Roman Empire are spectacular, masterpieces of architectural engineering such as the imposing remains of the Aqueduct.
Visiting the various sites will be a true journey in time, a route full of charm and atmosphere.

Aperitif - tasting of Brachetto DOCG and local products at the Regional Wine Shop "Terme e Vino". Lunch at leisure.
In the afternoon, visit the Roman Archaeological Museum hosted in the rooms of the Paleologi Castle, historic home of the marquises of Monferrato, dating back to the second half of the 15th century. The exhibition is divided into three sections (prehistoric and protohistoric age, roman age and late-antiquity and medieval age) with a significant number of finds of great interest for historians and archaeologists, which offer, overall, significant evidence of the uninterrupted human presence around Acqui from the remotest antiquity to the thresholds of the modern age.
