Olivola
Description
Olivola is a small magical village set among the gently rolling hills of Monferrato Unesco. Here time has stood still: narrow streets along the houses built with the characteristic 'pietra da cantoni' in which sky blue shutters stand out will take you into a picture postcard scenery. The other color which distinguishes this magical place is the golden yellow of an outstanding product, the olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil was already produced in the area of Olivola for the House of Savoy around the 18th century. This stopped after 1915, when the drastic change of the rigid climate conditions led to the decimation of the olive trees. Thanks to a knowledgeable recovery begun 25 years ago, today there are 2000 plants and the new "life" of the olive tree in Monferrato has ensured that the city of Olivola has been the first in Piedmont to have been appointed the prestigious City of Oil award.

Day 1
Arrive in Olivola. Collect e-bike and follow the route among the gently rolling hills of Monferrato Unesco as far as Cella Monte: Walking along the narrow roads of the village, which takes on the appearance of an open-air museum, visitors will realise that the walls are full of shells, which have not been positioned there by man but by nature, as this area was once home to the sea, and the Monferrato hills were the archipelagos. As the water retreated the sandstone remained, from which the houses, buildings and the infernots (UNESCO heritage site) were built. The infernots are underground chambers dug in the sandstone. Thanks to the special geological characteristics of this soil of sea origin they maintain the temperature and humidity constant and are used to store food, an extra space to the cellars. They are the precious inheritance of the rural tradition, small hidden gems recognized as heritage sites.

Return to Olivola and dinner with gourmet menu in Villa Guazzo Candiani where the oil of Monferrato combined with the tastes and the dishes of the area will make you live an unforgettable experience.

Day 2
Visit with oil tasting at Azienda Agricola Oliviera. Walk among the olive trees as far as the Big Bench for a spectacular souvenir photo.
