CANTINE DEL GAVI

You are in the homeland of Cortese, the white wine that has one of its highest expressions in Gavi. And if you have come here, it also seems to be in one of the main streets of this ancient and lovely town. At Cantine del Gavi, the simple beauty of the two paintings in the large dining room would be enough to reassure you. The dining rooms are always the same, the lighting is always embracing and intimate, in line with the atmosphere of the 18th century Genoese living rooms which are confidential and elegant. There is the possibility to choose wine by the glass from the lovely table at the centre of the room, a formula that makes the diner feel at home. The starter options (€ 13): ask for their salami, simply out of this world, before the highly praised beef tartare, delicious with its juices, no invading condiments and, more classic, veal in tuna sauce. The first course (€13) options are the quintessential Gavi dish, ravioli with meat in tomato sauce: consistent and perfumed with marjoram; alternatively, bean soup with maltagliati and Gavi risotto. The second course options (€18) are lamb chops breaded with pistachios, next to salami sausage flavoured with Barolo with fagiolane beans of Val Borbera and grilled Fassone beef with Bernaise sauce (only for 2 people). On to the dessert (€10), the ice cream (good) with black cherry compote and the Amedei chocolate cake, with an impeccable consistency, taste and baking. Finally, a restaurant where the reliability and soundness of the dishes win out.
