Castello di Uviglie

Built starting from the 14th century and situated in a position that overlooks Low Monferrato, the Castle of Uviglie stands on the hills east of Rosignano Monferrato surrounded by vineyards. Set among century-old plants, in the greenery of a romantic English park of 56,000 m2 that is home to the small hexagonal church dedicated to Saint Eusebio, it offers scenic views of the surrounding hills. Era: on the opposite side of the valley to Rosignano stands the Castle of Uviglie. The complex, dating from the 13th century, winds along the crest of the hill. Highly varied and articulate, it has undergone many modifications and enlargements over the centuries. Of the original nucleus only the dungeons and the beautiful crenellated tower remain, while a good part of the current construction dates to the 19th century restoration by Mella. Artworks and objects inside: the castle is surrounded by a lovely garden that is home to the noble chapel of Pico-Gonzaga: a small octagonal chapel immersed in the greenery of the castle park, dating to the 1700s dedicated to St. Eusebio, which houses the crypt containing the tombs of the lords of Uviglie. The complex is also home to the private chapel of the castle that was the place of prayer of S. Luigi Gonzaga between 1580 and 1581. On the side of the courtyard, there is a harmonious staircase to access the main floor that exceeds the traces of the moat. Worthy of a visit are also the ancient cellars dug in stone. The Castle of Uviglie is part of the Castelli Aperti event.
