Collegiata di San Secondo

The current church was built between the 13th and 15th centuries and is dedicated to the patron saint of the city. Of the preceding building remain the Romanesque bell tower of the 11th century and the central part of the crypt (10th century) which preserves the saint’s relics. The three-nave Gothic interior presents prestigious works including a polyptych and a painting by Gandolfino d'Asti, the 18th-century wooden choir, traces of 14th and 15th century frescoes. The first chapel of the right aisle hosts the Chariot of the city of Asti and the drapes of the Palio donated to the Collegiate Church (each year during the medieval ceremony of the Offering of the Palio of 1st Tuesday of May). At the bottom of the nave is the 18th century Chapel of San Secondo, designed by Bernardo Vittone. To visit the crypt contact the sacristan.
