Il Sentiero delle Ginestre

The path of the broom is a classic Acquese route. From the private road that leads to Cascina Le Piagge, turn left onto the country road. Continue downhill and then along some gentle ups and downs for about 2 km, until you reach the Valley Croce crossroads. On the left, take the tarmacked road that winds downhill through the woods for a short distance. At the edge of the woods, the tarmacked road ends and continues along a dirt road, with gentle ups and downs, and surrounded by colourful broom bushes. The narrow road follows the crest of the hill amongst vineyards. Crossing the minor tarmacked road once again, continue on the left after a few hundred meters until you reach the small but quaint old town of Ovrano (hamlet of Acqui Terme). Here you can visit the impressive castle. After a quick break, continue along the path marked with the number 531. The road is white and wide, with a view of the town of Acqui Terme. The descent takes us to the spa area. On the final part of the journey, you can take the tarmacked road to avoid a beautiful, although slightly steeper, stretch through the woods. Once at the spa area, cross the bridge located on the side of the Roman arches until you reach the centre of the town. Here you can visit the old town, la Bollente, the Paleologi Castle and the main pedestrian street. Return by minibus. By Giuseppe Rossi
