Museo Diocesano di arte sacra

In a symbolic place of the diocese – the former Episcopal Seminary – the museum gathers works that for the most part found their way to the curia’s storerooms for security reasons. Originating from the city of Tortona and from the extensive diocesan territory, they give the new institute an essential function: tell the story of the diocese through artistic production and provide a pastoral experience for the diocesan community and for the museum’s public. Its home is a historical building with its own characteristic structure that has remained unchanged; with the structural and functional adjustments of the rooms in the southern wing of the complex, the museum’s route develops over three levels along an itinerary that is both thematic and chronological and includes the halls of the first exhibition mounted in 2004. Alongside the library and the historical archive of which, in a “connection room”, it presents several significant assets, it embodies the unity of the diocesan cultural centre and, with it, its role of ecclesial service.
