MUSEO LA TORRE E IL FIUME

The symbol of the village of Masio, which makes its appearance unmistakable, is the ancient medieval tower of the 12th century, declared a national monument. The monument is 27 metres tall and together with several parts of the imposing bastions that remain, it was part of a large fortification existing in the 14th century. Following completion of the restoration work on the interiors in 2013, the Museum "La Torre e il Fiume" was set up, a fascinating vertical route that tells the story of the tower of Masio and of the towers of the area (construction, life in the tower, defence, siege), constructions born as symbol of the power of the municipalities in medieval times and elements characterising the landscape in modern times. The museum route continues, renewing the strong connection with the Tanaro, which dominates the landscape of Masio, to terminate with the exit on the top of the tower and admire the river and the hills of Monferrato and the Alessandria plain. The museum is part of the Castelli Aperti event. "La Torre e il Fiume" of Masio is open from May to October, except for the month of August, every Sunday from 15.00 to 18.30. Free admission.
